Spearfishing in Boavista
Located in the middle of the subtropical Atlantic Cape Verde is a marine biodiversity hotspot. Out of all islands of Cape Verde, Boavista is known to be the one with most fish, especially game fish. Cape Verde fisherman travel from nearby islands to fish in Boavista and sell the fish on their home island.

When to come
Season: June to November (Summer season)
Cape Verde can be classified into the trade wind season (December to June) and the summer season (July to November). The trade wind season make spearfishing difficult as the trade winds blow constantly with 15 to 25 knots which makes getting to spots very difficult. In the summer there can be days with strong winds as well but normally good conditions for fishing can be found. The summer brings rains with storms which can be torrential in the months of August and September.
Visibility and Water Temperature:
Visibility is usually good >15m to 40m in summer, but can be quite bad (<10m) in the trade wind season. If a big swell hits the coast in summer visibility can also deteriorate near the coast, but the blue water spots are not affected by this. In general summer months offer very good visibility.
Water temperature in summer is normally 26° to 28° C. A 2mm wetsuit is more than enough.

Blue water spearfishing:
Boavistas blue water spearfishing in simply amazing. There is no other way to describe it. Depths vary, but range from 30m to 80m. An abundance of big game fish is normally found at the spots. We normally catch wahoo, dorado (mahi mahi), amberjack and big horse eye jacks, but have also caught yellowfin tuna and sailfish on few occasions.
Reef spearfishing:
The reefs of Boavista are full of life. We have been fishing the reefs for 15 years and know some good spots to find a good fish. Expect to see amberjacks, jacks, groupers, lobsters and the beautiful african pompano.
